One of the best things about the New Year is having a fresh start not only for you and your loved ones, but for your home as well. Updating the look of your living space need not hurt your budget. Here are quick, easy, and affordable ways it a makeover in time for new beginnings.
1. Freshen up lamps.
Give your lamps a quick makeover with new shades in different shapes, sizes, or colors.
2. Update your traditional window treatments.
You can even make your own using fabrics with funky colors and patterns. Divisoria and textile shops offer hundreds of choices at wholesale prices.
3. Repeating patterns is a classic decorating tip.
Fill an empty wall with accents in the same shape.
4. Keep your drawers organized.
Maximize the space in each with drawer dividers.
5. If you’re into art, move around paintings to different walls or different rooms.
Your eyes will be surprised to see these pieces in new areas of your house.
6. Install battery-operated LED lights in unexpected places.
You can place them under a console table, behind a bookshelf, or behind a painting for a gallery-inspired back light effect.
7. Add a textured rug, carpet, or even a banig to your living room.
8. Small details can make a BIG difference.
How about placing beautiful coasters on your dining table, a striking wall clock, a vase filled with fresh flowers, new throw pillows or a bowl of fresh fruits in season?
9. Play around with colors.
<Instead of repainting an entire room, just paint one wall in an unexpected color like red, orange, or dark blue. You could also paint the insides of bookshelves in a striking color for an interesting contrast.
You could also accent your home with pieces in what the Pantone Color Institute says are the hottest colors for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity (think pale pink and powder blue). We’ll be seeing more of soft, pastel hues next year.
10. Add tassels or fringes to throw pillows, lamp shades, and curtains.
Tassels can give your curtains a new lease on life.
11. Re-arrange accents into themes.
For example, all teapots could be in one clear cabinet while all blue pieces can be displayed in one corner.
12. Perk up your bathroom.
You can add new storage units for your towels, robes, and other supplies. Or include other vibrant elements.
13. Change the color of your light bulbs.
For a more romantic feel, change your basic white to a soft yellow hue. You can even go eco-friendly.
14. Create your own indoor herb or succulent garden.
Plants make living spaces extra cozy, too.
15. Replace the drawer and cabinet knobs and pulls in your kitchen, bath, bedroom, or on a furniture piece.
Be bold and experiment with their styles and shapes; they don’t have to match all the time!
16. Enlarge favorite photos and turn these into wall art.
Enjoy looking at your most memorable moments.
17. Brighten up any room by hanging a mirror directly opposite the window.
Let the sunshine come in your rooms.
18. Make room for the new things and experiences coming your way by removing unnecessary clutter.
Gather old magazines, toys, and books lying around but are no longer used and donate these to charities you support.
