Pasig – The Heart of Metro Manila
Home to some of the largest companies in the Philippines, large and new
shopping malls, and schools, the city of Pasig has established itself
as a highly-urbanized city in the heart of Metro Manila. The city
skyline is dominated by Ortigas Center, home to San Miguel Corporation,
Meralco, and SM Megamall, while further east, another side of Pasig – a
quieter, gentler side – emerges.
Pasig City lies at the junction between Metro Manila and eastern Luzon.
It is no surprise that it was the former capital of Rizal Province, as
it was accessible to the halls of power while maintaining sufficient
distance from the national capital. Today, Pasig is served by EDSA,
Ortigas Avenue, C-5, and Shaw Boulevard, and its location at the
confluence of these four great roads makes it one of the prime business
destinations.
Rising in the East
Pasig City is one of the oldest towns in the Philippines. It traces its
roots to a settlement where the Marikina and Pasig rivers meet. The
Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Barangay Malinao, one of the most
historic stone churches in the country, was established by friars in
the 17th century and has survived numerous wars. Across the street from
the cathedral are an old convent for young women and the Pasig City
Museum, which hosts a permanent exhibit of Spanish-era and
revolutionary memorabilia.
Fast-forward to the 21st century and its frenetic pace of life, and you
find yourself in the middle of Ortigas Center . Formerly part of an plot
of land owned by a religious order, Ortigas Center serves as the
headquarters of many of the country's largest corporations, two of
which – Meralco and San Miguel – dominate the energy and food and
beverage markets, respectively. Because of its advanced infrastructure,
it is also a preferred site for BPO companies, many of which have
multiple sites in the district.
One of the most advanced hospitals in the country, The Medical City, is
located along Ortigas Avenue. Exclusive schools, such as St. Paul
College Pasig, the University of Asia and the Pacific, St. Pedro Poveda
College, Lourdes School Mandaluyong, and La Salle Green Hills, have
also built campuses in Pasig City or are located within a two-kilometer
radius. Thus, it is an attractive option for young couples and families.
Renting a Condo in Pasig City
Renting a condo in Pasig can be one of the smartest decisions you'll ever make. There is never any shortage of condominiums in Pasig City as there are options for every taste and budget. A bed space located twenty minutes from Ortigas Center can go for as low as P3,500 per month, while a three-bedroom condo in the middle of the business district can be rented for P170,000 monthly. Popular condo buildings for rent include BSA Towers, One Shangri-La Place, and the Sapphire Bloc .
