Imus City: Flag Capital of the Philippines

Located 18 kilometers from Metro Manila, the city of Imus is one of the country's fastest-rising industrial and commercial zones. It has a long history of involvement in independence movements, and is the site of a decisive battle in the Philippine Revolution. Today, Imus City plays a pivotal role in the continuing industrialization of Cavite and the rest of Southern Luzon.

Cavite's Industrial Hub

Formerly a part of the large town of Cavite el Viejo, the barrio of Imus was declared a separate municipality in 1795. Prior to the declaration, though, the Augustinian Recollect missionaries established a parish church, which was later on replaced by the present-day Imus Cathedral. As the seat of the Diocese of Imus, which covers all of Cavite, Imus City is considered the spiritual center of the province.

It is also the site of the Battle of Alapan, which ended in a decisive victory by Filipino forces that led to the declaration of independence in June 1898. The present Philippine flag was first unfurled at the battle, thus giving Imus the nickname Flag Capital of the Philippines.

Today, another kind of revolution – the industrial one – is taking place in Imus City. Large manufacturers, such as San Miguel-Yamamura Asia Corporation, have built factories in the industrial estates that have set up shop within city limits. It is also fast becoming a commercial and retail district; major mall operators such as Robinsons Land, SM Supermalls, and S&R have built branches in Imus.

Buying a House in Imus City

Imus City's proximity from Metro Manila and industrial zones have spurred the development of residential subdivisions to serve the working class. Many of these villages, such as Lancaster New City, Camella Bacundala, and Mary Cris Executive Homes, have features that closely mirror those of their big-city counterparts, such as clubhouses, schools, and recreational facilities. You can buy a house in Imus for as low as P1.113 million to as high as P7.5 million; this makes Imus a safe yet affordable place to start a family.
